USB 3.0 Cable
USB 3.0 – Don’t Forget the Cable
Taipei, Taiwan, May 18, 2010 / -- The era of USB 3.0 is upon us. This new technology is appearing on all sorts of devices that were once the sole territory of USB 2.0. With speeds that can reach up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0, it is no wonder that many manufacturers are implementing the new 3.0 technology into their products. USB 3.0 technology is being touted as being fully backward compatible with USB 2.0. What this means, is that if your computer or other device only has USB 2.0 ports, you can still use the new USB 3.0 cable to connect the new USB 3.0 hardware, though it will only run at USB 2.0 speeds. The picture on the right shows both ends of a micro-B USB 3.0 cable. The end on the left can fit into the USB 2.0 port on your computer.
There is one problem with all of this and inXtron has come up with a very nice solution. Unfortunately, even though the devices are fully backward compatible, the cables are not. What happens if you bring your new USB 3.0 hard drive case over to your friend's house to show him some pictures that you have on it, but you forget to bring your new USB 3.0 cable along? In the past, forgetting the cable wasn't a very big deal. Everyone has a spare USB cable lying around. If you forgot your cable, you could just ask your friend to borrow one, right?
The problem with most new USB 3.0 devices is that an old USB 2.0 mini-B cable will not attach to a new USB 3.0 micro-B interface.

The photo above shows the USB 3.0 micro-B and USB 2.0 mini-B cables. The USB 2.0 Mini-B connector will not fit into a new USB 3.0 micro-B port. So, if you forget your new cable you're pretty much screwed.
Tommy Chen, CEO of inXtron Incorporated, has come up with a great way of solving this problem. He has included a USB 2.0 mini-B interface on several of the new inXtron USB 3.0 models. (see above)
What this means, is that even if you lose or forget your USB 3.0 cable, you can still connect the device using a standard USB 2.0 mini-B cable. This one little addition to the inXtron units may save end-users countless headaches and frustration with the new USB 3.0 cables.
Yes, one day USB 3.0 will, most likely, be as commonplace as USB 2.0 is today, and everyone will have a spare USB 3.0 cable lying around, but until that day comes, it is nice to know that inXtron products can still be used with those old 2.0 cables….just in case.
