Digital Signage Players (EN)
Introduction to inXtron's digital signage media players
What is digital signage?
Digital signage is a form of advertising in which content and messages displayed on an electronic screen, TV or digital sign, can be changed without modification to the physical sign, typically with the goal of delivering targeted messages to specific locations at specific times. A digital sign usually consists of a computer or playback device connected to a large digital screen such as an LCD or plasma display. Digital signage is used in department stores, schools, libraries, office buildings, medical facilities, airports, train and bus stations, banks, auto dealerships and other public venues. Digital signs can be updated by remote control, by exchanging media cards, by transferring new data via USB connection or even by downloading new content over a internet or network connection. Digital signs can be animated and can deliver sound as well as visual content.
What kind of hardware platforms and digital signage systems does inXtron offer?
inXtron offers low cost off the shelf media players, medium range dynamic signage solutions for high definition playback and scheduled content updates via network, plus hardware platforms with customizeable firmware. inXtron currently does not provide high end PC based systems or CMS (content management system) software for content management on a server.
Standard definition media card based players
These low cost media players come with a multi card reader for standard media cards, like CF, MS, SD, MMC and more. The content is played directly from the media card and the advertisements can easily be updated by simply swapping out the media card for a new one. The media player firmware offers several options to set up an automated playback with playlist and scheduled power on and off time. This is the ideal replacement of the old DVD player. Not only is it smaller and can be hidden behind the display panel but it also offers great flexibility and automated playback, starting up and shutting down on its own.

High definition hard drive based media players
Hard drive based media players with high definition playback support offer plenty of storage capacity to store larger files, which will be useful especially for high definition videos. Reliable playback from its internal hard drive guarantees non-stop display of your advertisements. The media files can be updated easily via external USB drive. These media players are also ideal as a sales tool, for presentations and product demonstrations. Simply store all the video presentations and image files on the media player, hook it up to any projector or display and use the remote control to access the files and display the relevant information.

Network connected digital signage players
This is the most flexible solution of all the other digital signage players. Not only does it play high definition content but the media files can be updated via internet or network connection. Content can be stored on a variety of storage devices, such as 2.5" hard drives, CF cards or USB drives. The player firmware offers numerous functions for automated playback and dynamic content update, allowing the client to use the device in many different scenarios and environments.

Customisable hardware platforms
The digital signage hardware platform including its player firmware can be built into exisiting products, like a standard LCD display or picture frame as an example. The bridge board (hardware) can be modified to simplify or add new functionalities like RS232 for interactive touch panels and a new board can even be designed from scratch. Several options like real time clock and watchdog timer can either be added or removed and the firmware customized to meet the customer's request.
